Emergency Planning
The City of Sault Ste. Marie is committed to delivering essential services in the event of a disaster or other major emergency. The City’s
Emergency Plan sets out roles and responsibilities of the mayor, city councillors and City departments. It also provides for the co-ordination of community agencies and services such as the hospital, local school boards, public utilities, and the Canadian Red Cross.
In Sault Ste. Marie, we could experience extended power outages, severe winter weather, infectious disease outbreaks, water contamination or hazardous chemical releases. Although each of these events is very different in nature, the plan is designed to provide a framework for an effective response to any situation which might arise.
