Cultural Financial Assistance
The City of Sault Ste. Marie provides financial assistance for individuals or not-for-profit cultural groups participating in provincial, national, or international cultural competitions, as well as assistance for operating expenses, special events, or seed funding meeting specified criteria.
Provincial/National/International Cultural Competition Financial Assistance
Requests for financial assistance shall be considered from individuals or not-for-profit cultural groups who are residents of Sault Ste. Marie and are active in culture as defined in the City's Cultural Policy. Requests will not be considered for attendance at boards of education or post-secondary education institution cultural competitions at any level. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Cultural Financial Assistance
Requests for financial assistance are considered from not-for-profit organizations, societies or individuals located in, and serving residents of Sault Ste. Marie in the cultural field as defined in the policy document. The deadline for applications is normally January 15th of each year. An application form is available for download below. Submission of an application does not guarantee approval. The program or service must serve clearly identified community needs not already adequately addressed by another organization, be it government or corporate.
Cultural financial assistance may be considered in the following categories:
Operating
Assistance with operating costs is given to not-for-profit organizations, societies or individuals which, in the judgment of City Council, make a unique contribution to the City’s cultural life and can prove responsible management through detailed budgets, properly prepared financial statements and provide activity reports and other supporting data. The applicant must have either a Board of Directors which will assume full responsibility for the administration of the funds or an agent acceptable to City Council. There must be a rationale to support the proposal.
Special Events
The project must be seen as of cultural benefit to the people that the organization was created to serve and also to the public. The project should be of limited duration.
Seed
"Seed" or "start-up" assistance may be considered for applicants which require funds to start a worthwhile operation which is innovative and serves a special need not being served in some other way.
