The City’s two pre-school programs are operated within the Community Services Department. The Maycourt Children’s Centre is licensed to accommodate 40 children between the ages of 2 and 5 years.  The Jessie Irving Children’s Centre is licensed to accommodate 58 children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years.

Programs operate between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Full-day, half-day, full-week and part-week placements are available.  All pre-school teachers are qualified Early Childhood Educators who utilize an anti-bias approach in their programming with the children.  The focus is on self-awareness and self-worth, which allows children to develop to their full potential.  All ethnic and religious backgrounds are respected.

Children are provided with an opportunity to learn through play, observation and interaction.  They are exposed to a variety of age appropriate developmental devices and equipment, curriculums and teaching techniques.  Programs enhance the fine and gross motor skills, cognitive skills and communication skills of the children.

Municipal Best Start Program

• Location - Holy Family Elementary School
• Accommodates - 20 children between the ages of 3 to 5 years
• Open - Monday to Friday from September to June
• Hours of Operation - 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Alternate hours may be available, depending upon need and demand
• Subsidy available.
